The possibility of Kirk Cousins remaining the quarterback for the Washington Redskins is a topic of conversation that has not gone away. Cousins and the Redskins have yet to come to terms on an agreement that will lock him up with the team for years to come.
But from the tone of comments made by Cousins, he wants to remain a long-term member of the team. This is according to Alex Duke of The Gospel Coalition who profiled Cousins. Duke said Cousins is “fully invested in the present goal of getting the Redskins to the Super Bowl in 2018 or beyond.”
Cousins also shared this with Duke.
“I want to be a diligent, hard-working, humble, and servant-hearted employee of the Redskins and teammate with the guys I play with.”
Cousins’ commitment to Washington is solid. He has been the starting quarterback since 2015 and thus far has produced a 21-20 record.
Cousins continues performing at a high level having completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,796 yards, 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions on the season. Unfortunately, Washington’s 4-6 record in the NFC East is doing little to edge the team isn’t playoff contention.
But, there is always next year for a Super Bowl run as Cousins points out. Once the offseason rolls around, contract discussions should once again start taking place. Cousins is playing under a franchise tag salary for a second year in a row and is expected to be a free agent in March.
