The San Antonio Spurs will send veteran point guard Tony Parker to the G-League here soon. It will be the next step in a rehab process that has spanned the past six months.
“The San Antonio Spurs will send veteran point guard Tony Parker to their G-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, for a rehabilitation assignment,” ESPN’s Marc Spears and Michael Wright reported Wednesday.
Parker suffered a torn quad in the Western Conference Semifinals this past spring and has been out of action since. The team is still not expecting to get Parker back until later in the season. The initial timeline for return was January, but that could be moved up should his rehab go well.
In Parker’s stead, second-year player Dejounte Murray is averaging 13.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists thus far this season. It’s highly unlikely Parker will take over the starting job one he does return.
