Cubs pitcher Jon Lester leaves Thursday’s start with apparent injury

Chicago Cubs starter Jon Lester was removed in the second inning of Thursday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds with an apparent injury.

In a flip of the old phrase, this added injury to insult for Lester.

Lester finished the game with nine runs allowed (though only seven were earned), seven hits, and one walk in 1.2 innings. All nine of Cincinnati’s runs came in the second inning.

The Cubs announced that Lester was experiencing left lat tightness.

His next scheduled start is on August 23 in Cincinnati against the same Reds team.
