Former Cowboys S Barry Church: Jaguars are more talented

Barry Church believes the Jaguars are more talented than his former Cowboys team.

New Jacksonville Jaguars safety Barry Church played seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and started 12 games for the team that earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC last year. He knows full well just how much talent Dallas boasted on its roster during his tenure with the team.

That’s why it’s so surprising that Church would take to the media on Friday to declare that his new Jaguars squad has more talent than the Cowboys.

Really.

“I feel like we have a lot more talent than we did over there (in Dallas). We just have to keep plugging away and get ready for Week 1,” Church said, via NFL.com.

Now, that’s definitely one way to be confident in your team’s ability. This follows comments from Jaguars defensive end Malik Jackson predicting that they will win Super Bowl this upcoming season (more on that here).

Bravado, anyone?

Back to Church’s comments for a second. Dallas won 13 games in his final season with the team last year. That’s more wins than the Jaguars themselves have over the past three seasons combined.

With that said, there’s definitely reason for optimism in Jacksonville. This squad is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.

The issue here is proven talent. It’s one thing to put a collection of good players together. It’s a completely different thing to see them turn into a good team. That’s happened in Dallas. And it hasn’t in Jacksonville.

So until the team actually proves its talent is worthy on Sundays, whatever the players say should be taken with a grain of salt.
