John Ross could miss start of training camp with shoulder injury

John Ross

The Cincinnati Bengals took their chances when they selected Washington’s wide receiver John Ross with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Injury concerns stopped some teams from even considering Ross as a draft prospect. Fast forward a couple of months, and the latest news is that Ross won’t be on the field “until early August or so,” according to the team’s official website. This means he might not be ready for training camp. That’s a problem for a rookie receiver, as we’ve seen in years past.

Ross is currently rehabbing from a shoulder surgery he underwent after the NFL Combine took place. This is not the first surgery Ross has had at a mere 22 years old though. He has also undergone previous surgeries on both of his knees. Clearly his physical durability is a major concern.

Ross tallied 81 receptions for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns in his final year at Washington. If healthy, and provided he learns the offense quickly, he will be a fabulous compliment to A.J. Green out on the field this fall.

Hopefully, the team’s projected return for Ross in early August sticks. It would be a shame for the rookie to be further delayed, thus hindering him from practicing with his team.
