Former LSU head coach Les Miles has long been among the most-respected at his profession in the college football world. So it surprised the masses when he was fired by the program earlier in the season.
Having now stepped away from those responsibilities, Miles is mulling other opportunities as the 2016 season draws to a conclusion.
A bit further west, the Baylor football program was turned upside down earlier this year after a sexsual assault scandal rocked the school. This led to the ousting of long-time head coach Art Briles.
It’s in this that a link between Miles and Baylor could easily be made without reading anymore into the situation.
Now comes this report from CBS sports, citing multiple sources, that Miles is indeed on the short list for the Baylor job.
As for Miles himself, he seems willing to listen to offers from powerhouse programs.
“I’m making myself available to search firms,” Miles said. “I’m communicating the best I can.”
In addition to Miles, Cal’s Sonny Dykes and Larry Fedora of North Carolina have been bandied about as possibilities for the Bears’ head coaching job.
As of right now, Jim Grobe is holding down the fort in the interim. He’s led Baylor to a 6-3 record through the first nine games of the season.
