The Oakland Raiders are one major step closer to potentially relocating to Las Vegas. According to Nathan O’Neal of a local NBC News affiliate, a panel has approved $750 million in funding for a new stadium in the desert metropolis.
It’s an absolutely huge step forward for both the Raiders and the city of Las Vegas. It will also call into question whether this year is the Raiders’ last in Northern California.
Much like what we saw in Inglewood and Carson down in Southern California, approval of taxpayer funds to erect a professional sports venue does not need to be voted on by the electorate.
Instead, it’s the elected officials and committees within the local community that dictate whether taxes can be increased to fund a new stadium.
Previous reports suggested that Raiders owner Mark Davis would commit to relocation should taxpayer funds be approved to erect a new stadium.
Now that this has been settled, the process now moves on to the governor and state legislature for final approval.

Should that happen, it would be nothing less than an inevitability that the Raiders will end up in Vegas.
