Brooks was one of Philadelphia’s biggest signings in the offseason. The Eagles inked him to a five-year deal worth $40 million.
Philadelphia figures to have a heavy running attack this year, which a healthy Brooks will obviously be a big part of.
Recently, he expressed a desire to start strong.
“It’s one of the best offensive lines in the league,” Brooks said, per Donald Hunt, Philadelphia Tribune. “I always want to start off fast. I want to start off scoring. We want to be assignment sharp and move the ball down the field. I’m trying to get extra reps. I’m trying to put in extra time off the field with film study.”
In terms of starting fast and getting reps, this is a step in the wrong direction.
If he is indeed going to be okay, it’s smart that they’re being cautious. In the preseason, that’s always a right plan. Even if Brooks is going to be alright for the season, though, this is not the start that any team wants just minutes into the preseason opener.
The number one goal in these games is to get through them healthy. With Brooks being out, Philadelphia is fighting an uphill battle in achieving that goal.
