The Washington Wizards worked quickly during the opening stages of free agency early Friday morning back east.
According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Washington has re-signed young shooting guard Bradley Beal to a max contract worth $128 million over five seasons.
It’s a huge deal for a player that has shown himself to be injury prone over the past couple years. Beal has missed 46 games over the past two seasons with multiple injuries. Overall, he’s missed a quarter of Washington’s games since entering the NBA as a top-five pick back in 2012.
When on the court, Beal has proven himself to be an elite-level scorer from the outside. He’s shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc over the course of his career, including a 39 percent mark this past season.
Showing mid-range ability as well, the potential future All-Star shot 48 percent from two-point range in 2015-216.
Some may question this decision, but it’s a move the Wizards had to make after they failed to get involved in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes.
Keeping Beal as a tandem in the backcourt with John Wall made all the sense in the world. And in reality, this summer’s market is dictating these seemingly massive deals.
