Victor Cruz announces he will undergo season-ending surgery

The New York Giants patiently waited for Victor Cruz to be healthy, but they’ll be holding out for another year.

In a video shared by Bleacher Report, Cruz announced he will be having season-ending surgery to repair his left calf.

Cruz recovered from a nasty leg injury that prematurely ended his 2014 campaign, but the wide receiver couldn’t overcome a calf issue that has plagued him since the preseason. He said:

“It’s a tough time for me, tough time for my family, tough time for all of us because we were so excited about coming back and being a part of something special this year and being a special player individually. But unfortunately, I couldn’t do that this year because of my calf injury.”

Although New York remains on track for the postseason because the NFC East is such a weak division, it’s easy to wonder if Cruz’s presence would’ve made a difference during any of the team’s four losses by four points or less.

The Giants will continue working with Dwayne Harris as the slot receiver. Harris is a decent target, but Cruz would’ve been a massive upgrade to the New York offense and a familiar face for Eli Manning.

According to Spotrac, Cruz has three years remaining on his contract.
