Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers raised eyebrows after the NFC Championship Game loss by pondering his future with the organization. It raised immediate trade speculation, even causing other NFL teams to reach out, but it seems Rodgers’ fate is already determined.
A year after the Packers shocked the NFL world by trading up and drafting Jordan Love, Green Bay is once again dealing with speculation that they could part ways with another legendary quarterback. While it’s a situation created by the organization, they are quickly trying to quell any rumors about a blockbuster trade.
Green Bay Packers coach, GM rule out Aaron Rodgers trade
Following the NFC title loss, head coach Matt LaFleur emphatically stated his commitment to Rodgers as the starting quarterback in 2021. A week later, meeting with reporters on Monday, LaFleur doubled down on his devotion to the NFL MVP., making it clear Rodgers will be in Green Bay “for a long time.”
“Is that a trick question? Absolutely. There’s no doubt about it. You’re talking about the guy who’s going to win the MVP of the league. We’re not in this position without him.”

LaFleur recognizes how vital Rodgers is to Green Bay’s offense and his influence as a leader in the locker room. Trading the future Hall of Fame quarterback would signal a rebuild and likely sour the trust players have with the organization, which the Houston Texans are going through right now.
Green Bay’s head coach isn’t the only one backing Rodgers. Brett Favre has also tried to squash trade speculation and team CEO Mark Murphy said the organization would be idiots to move on from Rodgers. Likewise, Packers’ general manager Brian Gutekunst, the man responsible for drafting Love, emphasized his commitment to No. 12.
“I don’t think I have to do a lot of assuring him, because I think his play speaks for itself… I don’t think there’s anything we have to do. He’s our quarterback, and he’s our leader.”

It’s evident that Rodgers will be with the Packers in 2021, it would be foolish to trade the NFL MVP. The Los Angeles Rams, who gave up two first-round picks for Matthew Stafford, were immediately rejected when they made a run at Rodgers.

But there are still long-term concerns here. Some within the organization seemingly want to move on from Rodgers. This is the same front office that allegedly traded up for Love, despite no other teams seeing him as a first-round pick and allegedly drafted him to spite Rodgers.
