DraftKings Week 8 picks: Quarterbacks
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens, $8,100
For those wanting to budget a higher salary on one of the top-three DraftKings quarterbacks, Jackson is the best value play for Week 8. After a red-hot performance last week, start Jackson at Arizona. The Cardinals have given up the sixth-most DraftKings fantasy points and three rushing touchdowns to quarterbacks.
Gardner Minshew, Indianapolis Colts, $5,400
On the cheaper scale for Week 8, Minshew is a sleeper DFS start versus the New Orleans Saints. Likely attempting boatloads of passes to keep competitive, Minshew could throw for over 300 yards which has been the case in his last two games. At this salary, the appeal exists.
Mac Jones, New England Patriots, $5,000
Ultra-affordable, Jones is a DraftKings value play for Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins. Jones is coming from a clean, 272-passing-yard, two-TD game and now faces a Miami defense that has yielded the fifth-most DraftKings quarterback points per game (20.4).
DraftKings Week 8 picks: Running Backs
Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints, $7,300
As the fifth-highest priced DraftKings running back, Kamara sports tons of upside heading to Indianapolis in Week 8. The Colts have awarded the fifth-most RB points per game, including 10 rushing touchdowns — the second-most in the league.
On a side note, monitor Kamara’s playing status (illness). If he sits out, Jamaal Williams is a tremendous DraftKings value play at a mere $4,300, especially with his expertise in finding the end zone.
Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars, $7,200
Etienne has been a force over his last two games (160 total yards and four TDs), making him a great Week 8 play in DraftKings at this salary. The Jaguars head to Pittsburgh when we can expect the run game to continue easily, especially with Trevor Lawrence (knee) a bit hampered.
Breece Hall, New York Jets, $5,900
Hall has been terrific in his last two matchups. This makes it somewhat baffling that he’s such an affordable DraftKings play at a mere $5,900. So, start him in Week 8 for a game against the New York Giants who have given away the sixth-most RB fantasy points (25.8) in DraftKings.
Devin Singletary, Houston Texans, $4,400
Singletary last had his best fantasy performance (12 attempts for 58 yards). And if given more opportunities this Sunday, he’s a cheap DFS play in Week 8 in Carolina. The Panthers have been horrendous against running backs and have allowed the second-most fantasy points. This includes them giving up a league-high 13 touchdowns to running backs.
DraftKings Week 8 picks: Wide Receivers
A.J. Brown, Philadelphia Eagles, $8,000
As fourth highest-priced wide receiver, it’s hard to pass on A.J. Brown as a Week 8 value play in DraftKings. Brown was money last week, racking up 137 yards and a touchdown. He next plays in Washington against a Commanders unit giving away the second-most DK wide receiver points (40.9).
Christian Kirk, Jacksonville Jaguars, $5,900
Performing better fantasy-wise than Calvin Ridley as of late, Kirk is a salary-friendly DFS start in Week 8 at Pittsburgh. If the trend continues, Kirk should cash in against a Steelers defense that has surrendered the fourth-most WR points in 2023.
Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings, $5,700
After a stunning two-touchdown performance in Week 7, Addison is hard to pass up at only $5,700, making him a wonderful DFS value play. Even against a tougher Green Bay defense, expect Kirk Cousins to target Addison plenty, as was the case in their last game against a stiff 49ers defense.
George Pickens, Pittsburgh Steelers, $5,600
Pickens makes for a sweet start in Week 8 facing the Jaguars. Pickens comes with much appeal at this salary and plays a Jags’ defense that has yielded 39.1 DraftKings points per week to opposing wide receivers.
Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders, $5,300
McLaurin is one of the best value players in DraftKings for Week 8 for this cheap price. The Commanders take on an Eagles defense that has allowed the most DraftKings wide receiver points (44.8) on the season. Note that McLaurin had his best fantasy performance of the year against Philly in Week 4.
Braxton Berrios, Miami Dolphins, $3,000
Starting Braxton Berrios against New England could pay off well if Tyreek Hill (hip) and/or Jaylen Waddle (back) miss Sunday’s game, or play limited. Keep an eye on their statuses because Berrios will see an increased role as the Dolphins attempt to get back into the winning column.
DraftKings Week 8 picks: Tight Ends
Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs, $8,400
Do what you can to budget for Kelce who is must-start in DraftKings in Week 8. Over his last two games, he’s recorded a phenomenal 303 total yards and a touchdown. Next, Kelce faces a Broncos defense that has been the second-worst in defending opposing tight ends. Kelce will be money in the bank!
Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals, $2,800
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Trey McBride (targeted 11 times in his last two games) makes for a bargain DraftKings value play with Zach Ertz now on IR. Those looking to save gobs of salary might sneak McBride into their lineups against Baltimore on Sunday.
DraftKings overrated plays Week 8
Quarterbacks:
Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins, $7,700
Week 8 could prove troublesome for Tagovailoa, making him an overrated play at his lofty DraftKings salary. The Dolphins take on a Patriots defense that last held Josh Allen to just 265 passing yards, two TDs, and one INT. Tagovailoa could struggle if Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle don’t play or are not 100%.
Running Backs:
Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans, $7,600
Also an overrated play in Week 8, Derrick Henry could disappoint. The Titans play the Falcons with rookie Will Levis getting his first start. On top of that, Atlanta has given up the sixth-fewest DraftKings RB points, and zero rushing touchdowns. Yuck.
Wide Receivers:
Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams, $9,000
Another overpriced DraftKings play in Week 8 is Cooper Kupp. Priced second-highest among wide receivers, Kupp has a brutal opponent facing the Cowboys on the road. This is a defense that has given up only 48 catches to wide receivers in six games, which equates to the third-least fantasy points. These are some definite red flags.
Tight Ends:
T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings, $6,200
At this DraftKings salary, it might be good to steer clear of Hockenson. He’s dealing with a foot injury as the Vikings head to Lambeau Field. The Packers have been somewhat efficient against opposing tight ends and have yielded the eighth-fewest fantasy points and only one TE touchdown.
