Now that the regular season is here, the NFL salary cap situations for several teams have changed. Those who designated veterans post-June 1 cuts, created a ton of cap room with a nice number of big names still on the NFL free agent market.
We’ll look at the teams with the most cap room at any given point as everything happens in live time.

Best NFL salary cap situations
San Francisco 49ers
- San Francisco 49ers NFL salary cap room: $45.03 million
San Francisco restructured the contracts of Pro Bowlers Trent Williams, Fred Warner, Arik Armstead and George Kittle ahead of Week 1, saving a whopping $40-plus million against the cap. By signing Nick Bosa to a record-breaking contract extension, the 49ers also lowered his 2023 cap figure. It’s highly unlikely that general manager John Lynch and Co. will do much with this room. But it does open up the possibility of an in-season trade like we saw last season with the Christian McCaffrey acquisition.
Cleveland Browns
- Cleveland Browns NFL salary cap room: $35.82 million
The Cleveland Browns restructured multiple contracts during the summer, creating a ton of flexibility under the NFL salary cap. Earlier in the offseason, Cleveland also saved $35.8 million against the cap by restructuring quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract. Whether general manager Andrew Berry decides to use this new surplus for a blockbuster trade ahead of the Oct. 31 deadline remains to be seen.
Baltimore Ravens
- Baltimore Ravens NFL salary cap room: $29.73 million
Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta now has ample room to add a player ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline. It’s something the team did last season by acquiring All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith from the Chicago Bears.
Running back could be a target area after the season-ending injury JK Dobbins suffered back in Week 1. Perhaps, Jonathan Taylor will come up in trade talks over the next several weeks.
Arizona Cardinals
- Arizona Cardinals NFL salary cap room: $14.47 million
Arizona is highly unlikely to spend much of its remaining room under the NFL salary cap to sign players. The team is prepared to tank for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, or so it seems. What we saw this past offseason doesn’t lend credence to the idea that the Cards are looking to contend in 2023. It’s that simple.

Dallas Cowboys
- Dallas Cowboys NFL salary cap room: $13.05 million
Despite having added Stephon Gilmore, Brandin Cooks and Trey Lance in trades ahead of Week 1, Dallas still finds itself in a great position to make a move or two. With the fifth-most cap room in the NFL after cutting their roster to 53, it would not be a surprise if the Cowboys looked to the NFL free agent market to upgrade at positions of need. They might also look at the trade market once again ahead of Oct. 31.
