Shooters shoot. Stephen Curry is a prime example of that in the Bay Area. Apparently, the San Francisco 49ers are taking a cue from the greatest shooter of all-time leading up to the start of the 2021 NFL Draft.

According to multiple media reports, San Francisco called the Green Bay Packers about a trade for reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.

This is not a drill. It’s something that apparently happened with San Francisco mere hours away from making a franchise-altering decision with the third pick in the draft.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero went on to note that there’s no chance Green Bay trades Rodgers.

The interesting dynamic here is that Rodgers has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason after he made a cryptic comment about his future in Green Bay following the Packers’ loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game.

Meanwhile, Green Bay has refused to commit to Rodgers beyond the 2021 season. As of yet, the team has not restructured his contract to create more cap space. It’s led to speculation that the Packers will move on from Rodgers following the season while relying on 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback situation comes full circle

It was back in 2005 that the 49ers passed up on Rodgers for Alex Smith with the first pick in the draft. This has since led to multiple stories about how that decision has motivated a quarterback in Rodgers who grew up in the Bay Area as a 49ers fan.

Sixteen years later, and the 49ers are about to make their biggest decision since 2005. That includes choosing between Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Mac Jones to be their quarterback of the future. All the while, Super Bowl quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo remains on the trade block.

San Francisco traded up from the 12th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to No. 3 overall for a quarterback, yielding two future first-round picks and a 2022 third-round selection in the process. To say that the 49ers’ brass in under a ton of pressure heading into Thursday night would be an understatement.
