The Atlanta Falcons continue to be a team that sources around the league point to as a strong contender to land a particular superstar quarterback that could be on the trade block soon.

This offseason will have many talented QB’s up for grabs. In NFL free agency, signal-callers that have taken teams to the playoffs like Geno Smith, Daniel Jones, Derek Carr, and Jimmy Garoppolo will all be available to the highest bidder. However, when it comes to the trade market, two of the very best at their position could be moved in the next month.

Green Bay Packers legend Aaron Rodgers and Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson could be shipped off for different reasons in the offseason, and both have garnered a huge amount of interest around the league even before their teams have decided to actually pursue potential trades.

While the Atlanta Falcons invested a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft into Cincinnati star Desmond Ridder, the team has not guaranteed him the starting job in 2023 after playing in the last few games of 2022-2023. That has left the door open to them pursuing a trade for QB or one in free agency.

And over the last few weeks, consistent reports have suggested the team could win the sweepstakes for, arguably, the best of the available QB bunch.

Atlanta Falcons continue to be linked to trade for Lamar Jackson

The next month will decide Lamar Jackson’s future and if it’s with the Baltimore Ravens. If the player and team can’t agree on a new long-term pact and do look to move him, the Falcons seem like the most likely landing spot.

Last month Washington Post NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported that several executives believed the Falcons made a lot of sense as a trade destination. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler received similar intel from other executives around the NFL. Since the team will have a great deal of cap space in the offseason and would fit the Ravens’ preference of trading him out of the conference.

“Good running game, an offense that could be friendly to Lamar while helping him grow as a passer, big receivers with a catch radius, which he needs due to accuracy issues, young regime on an improving team looking for a quarterback solution,” one NFL scout told Fowler in January.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport also backed up the claim the Ravens would want to send Jackson to the NFC, and last week New York Post NFL reporter Ryan Dunleavy speculated a Lamar Jackson to the Atlanta Falcons trade made a great deal of sense based on various reports and information the outlet has heard.

Along with excess funds, the Falcons also have a few extra second and third-day picks in the 2023 NFL Draft as well as the eighth pick overall. A position where the Ravens could land a future franchise QB.
