Anderson Silva next fight: Who will tangle with the ‘Spider’ next?

Jason Burgos

The Anderson Silva next fight news is likely to come at some point in the next few months. While we wait, let’s take a look at several opponent options that could be on the horizon for the UFC middleweight icon.

Who will Anderson Silva next fight be against?

With Anderson Silva firmly entrenched in his career as a boxer, after another impressive performance in his exhibition against Bruno Machado, the ring is where he will be for his next fight. Not the cage. With that in mind, bouts against Jake Paul, Logan Paul, or Roy Jones, Jr. are strong possibilities.

  • Problem Child: While Paul is pushing for a fight with former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, the fight many fans want to see is against Silva. The Brazilian would surely be a threat, but at 46 and with a couple of decades worth of MMA wear on his body, it is a sound booking for the 5-0 boxer.
  • The Other Paul: In 2021 there were rumors of a possible Silva for Logan Paul matchup. If the MMA legend can’t get a fight with his more talented little brother, maybe the matchup with big bro should be made?
  • The Legend: Silva has wanted a fight with Jones, Jr. since he was champion in the UFC. While he has seemingly given up on that dream, now might be the time it actually happens.

Anderson Silva vs Bruno Machado recap

As was to be expected, due to Silva’s size and skill advantages, UAE Warriors lightweight champion Bruno Machado was no match for the “Spider” on May 21 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

What happened: Over their eight-round exhibition bout, Silva manhandled the smaller man and outboxed him throughout the fight. The highlight moment came in the sixth round when the 46-year-old threw a wild flurry and big right hook that floored his foe at the bell.

The fallout: This was not a booking for competitive purposes but more to put on a show for fans in the region featuring two of the very best combat athletes of the last 20 years in Silva, and event headliner Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

The roadmap: The fringe boxing world is Silva’s oyster and his talent and name value should land him a fun scrap with another popular fight game brand in the fall.

The Spiders Web: At his peak, Anderson Silva was a truly special mixed martial artist. He was a competitor that had a legitimate aura akin to Mike Tyson in his prime. Silva was a talent that beat some of his opponents before they even reached the cage. He was also a fighter that for a long-time defied age and was a pound-for-pound talent deep into his 30s.

  • During his unbeaten UFC run from ’06 to ’12, the Brazilian beat elite fighters and former world champions Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin, Demian Maia, Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, and Forrest Griffin
  • After dominating the sport as one of its pound-for-pound best for six years, he would go 1-7-1 in his next nine UFC fights. With two ending early from serious leg injuries
  • Silva began his boxing career in 2021 by beating former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. by a split decision.
  • In September of 2021, the legend beat another former UFC great, Tito Ortiz, by first-round knockout to earn his second professional boxing victory
