Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been dealing with a knee issue over the last few weeks, and one NFL insider finally revealed on Monday the specifics of the ongoing injury.

On Sunday afternoon, the Eagles scored a major division win when they were able to upend rivals the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 28-23 at Lincoln Financial Field. The victory now gives Philadelphia a commanding two-and-a-half-game lead in the NFC East standings.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts was effective during his team’s latest win in Week 9, however, he has not been playing at quite the same level as he did in 2022 when he was an MVP candidate. His passer and QB ratings are down this season and he is also on pace to set a new career high for interceptions.

Yet one of the more notable differences is he has been less effective when making use of his talented legs. Over the first nine games of the season, Jalen Hurts has run for just 316 yards and is averaging a career-low 3.6 yards per carry. Which is two yards lower than his career best in 2021, and a yard behind his average in 2022.

There have been reports over the last few weeks that the Pro Bowler is dealing with an apparent knee issue. While it has not limited him in practice or kept him out of games, a case could be made that it might be hampering him from playing at his best, as he has been seen noticeably limping during and after games.

On Monday, NFL Media league insider Ian Rapoport spoke about the issue and revealed what the ailment is that the team and player have been mysterious about in recent weeks.

“Jalen Hurts, the Eagles starting quarterback we have seen hobbled the last month or so, he’s got a knee brace on, he’s dealing with a knee injury and he seemed to aggravate it yesterday,” Rapoport said. “My understanding, going into the game, was it’s bascially a bruise — a knee contusion — we’ll see if he exacerbated this.”

Rapoport also mentioned Hurts didn’t want to talk about it after the game but admitted their bye next week is coming at the right time for him.

The Eagles return to the field on Nov. 20 in a massive Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.
