A top NFL Draft expert believes that three quarterbacks will go in the top five picks of the 2024 event, which could mean the New York Giants may not be able to take one of the best available when they are on the clock at No. 6.
This is going to be a pivotal offseason in the regime of Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. Following a disappointing 6-11 finish to this season, changes to the roster and the coaching staff were expected, however, some recent revelations have added more pressure for the team to get better quickly.

Earlier this week, an expose from the New York Daily News revealed serious problems that have developed over the last two years between Daboll and his coaching staff. The report painted the head coach as a finger-pointer who doesn’t take accountability and lacks composure during games. Furthermore, the organization’s GM is aware of the growing issues and it will likely mean Daboll could be on the hot seat in 2024.
The situation puts news pressure on the additions the team makes in free agency, and especially the NFL Draft. The Giants have the sixth overall pick in this year’s event. While taking the best player available is an understandable approach for a team that has many needs, the organization lacks a reliable franchise QB and this year’s draft has a strong signal-caller class, especially at the top.
New York Giants may be lucky if Jayden Daniels falls to them at No. 6
Many draft experts expect USC star Caleb Williams to be the first quarterback off the board in April. Then there is speculation about whether North Carolina’s Drake Maye or Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels will be the next QB taken. But, whatever the order ends up being ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper believes all three will be off the board in the first five picks.
During a recent appearance on ESPN’s “First Draft,” Kiper claimed that Daniels is now a top-five pick due to the success of Lamar Jackson and their similar skills. The Baltimore Ravens superstar was a late first-round pick and his continued dominance — especially this season — has further boosted the value of dual-threat players like Daniels.
Similar to how he believes Russell Wilson’s NFL success led to Bryce Young and Kyler Murray being top picks in their drafts.
While he admitted he could switch positions, he still has Maye above Daniels on his draft board. The New York Giants pick six and the Bears, Commanders, and Patriots all could take QBs with their tip picks ahead of them.
If Daniels does slip past those teams and New York does look for Daniel Jones’ replacement, it seems to nearly guarantee the team takes the LSU star since they may be lucky if he even gets to them based on Kiper’s thinking.
