Philadelphia Eagles beat Kansas City Chiefs: Top highlights from ‘Monday Night Football’

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football to wrap up Week 11 of the NFL schedule.

This was billed as the best game thus far on the NFL slate. It was a rematch from February’s Super Bowl in which Kansas City took out Philadelphia by the score of 38-35.

A lot was made of Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts going up against one another. But it’s others who played a major role in Philadelphia’s comeback 21-17 win.

That included multiple key drops from Chiefs wide receivers and tight ends. Once Marquez Valdes-Scantling saw a long bomb from Mahomes fall through his hands near the end zone late in the fourth quarter, that was all she wrote.

Below, we take a look at the top highlights and moments with some analysis from Kansas City’s 21-17 win to move to 9-1 on the season.

Monday Night Football highlights Week 11

The Kansas City Chiefs had a real opportunity to take the lead late in the fourth quarter when Marquez Valdes-Scantling dropped a bomb from Mahomes in the end zone to put an end to this game.

The Eagles blew up on offense about midway through the fourth quarter, showing us just how dominant they can be. Even going up against one of the best defenses in the league, the electric ability of this offense showed big time.

That included Hurts hitting star wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a beautiful 41-yard pass down to Kansas City’s one yard line.

The very next play saw Hurts score his second rushing touchdown of the game on what is now being called a tush-push to give Philadelphia a four-point lead in a game that Kansas City had seemingly dominated.

It was Philadelphia’s defense that decided to step up in the fourth quarter after the other side of the ball gained momentum with a touchdown.

That included Bradley Roby stripping Travis Kelce of the football as Kansas City was driving for a potential two-score lead early in the final stanza.

This represented the second red-zone turnovers for Kansas City on Monday Night Football after Mahomes threw an interception in the end zone earlier in the game.

After a trio of consecutive three-and-outs, the Eagles finally got going on offense in order to make this a one-score game. It culminated in yet another touchdown run from Jalen Hurts to make this a 17-14 game.

No one even touched Hurts as he scored his eighth rushing touchdown on the season. Hurts also ranks No. 1 among quarterbacks with 34 scores on the ground since making his debut back in 2020.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense just continues to dominate. With Philadelphia facing a 3rd-and-1 inside its own territory in the third quarter and down 17-7, the team couldn’t even pick up that single year.

It seems as if Hurts was a bit indecisive about whether to keep the ball or hand it off to D’Andre Swift. The end result was yet another Philadelphia punt.

After Kansas City’s defense held Philadelphia, its offense went back out on the field and did its thing to take a 17-7 lead into the half. That included a big first-down connection from Mahomes to Justin Watson on 3rd-and-15 to set up a 43-yard field goal from Harrison Butker.

We knew that Travis Kelce would make his impact known in this one. There was no way he’d be quiet with everything going on in his “personal life.”

About that? Kelce hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes with less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

Yeah, this dude is pretty darn good.

Chris Jones came to play for Kansas City on Monday Night Football. That included two sacks of Hurts on one drive after Mahomes threw an interception.

This is why the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year finalist wants to get paid the big bucks. Talk about two game-changing plays.

Anything you can do, I can do better. That’s the theme from Monday night’s game between the Eagles and Chiefs. After Kansas City picked off Jalen Hurts in the second quarter, new Eagles safety Kevin Byard returned the favor with his own interception of Mahomes in the end zone.

That was just not a good read from Mahomes there. He did not see Byard sitting down in the center field and attempted to target a player in Justin Watson who scored the game’s first touchdown.

Our first bit of controversy came in the second quarter when Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed picked off Jalen Hurts. The catch was good. But it didn’t look like Sneed was touched before A.J. Brown stripped him of the ball and came away with it.

Officials on hand ruled that Brown did indeed touch Sneed, making the defender down by contact in the process.

This represented Hurts’ ninth interception of the season after throwing all of six during the 2022 campaign. That’s been one of his Achilles’ heels this season.

It did not take Philadelphia long to answer Kansas City’s score. Riding the hot hand of D’Andre Swift (33 yards on five attempts), the Eagles drove down the field 75 yards on nine plays to tie the game up at seven. Swift capped it off with his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.

When the Eagles are getting balance like this on offense, they are incredibly hard to stop. Jalen Hurt’s dual-threat ability adds another layer to that.

After going three-and-out to open the game, Kansas City’s offense got back on track in a big way. That included Mahomes driving them down the field 80 yards on 10 plays, culminating in a touchdown pass to Justin Watson to give the home team a 7-0 lead.

That’s just Patrick Mahomes being Patrick Mahomes. However, it was running back Isiah Pacheco who spearheaded this drive with a 24-yard run. It’s surprising given that Philly is yielding less than 70 rushing yards per game on the season.

The Eagles did not record a single sack of Patrick Mahomes during February’s Super Bowl. It took one possession to rectify that Monday night with Haason Reddick getting to Mahomes for a sack early on.

This stalled Kansas City’s opening possession via a three-and-out. It also represented Reddick’s seventh sack of the past five games after a slow start to the season.

Philadelphia showed up for the road date in style as the team’s social media page continued to play into the revenge theme.

Travis Kelce and the Chiefs were no different.
