The Las Vegas Raiders will make the release of veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo official on Wednesday when NFL free agency officially opens up.
Garoppolo lasted one season with the Raiders after signing a three-year, $72.75 million contract with the team last spring.
The Super Bowl quarterback started all of six games in his only season with the Raiders. He was ultimately benched when Antonio Pierce took over for Josh McDaniels as the Raiders’ head coach. The quarterback threw seven touchdowns compared to nine interceptions in his six starts.
Despite these struggles, there is reportedly interest from a few teams in Garoppolo on the NFL free agent market. That information comes from Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

Where might Jimmy Garoppolo land?
The market for free agent quarterbacks has dried up some since the start of the legal tampering period. The Pittsburgh Steelers (Russell Wilson) and Atlanta Falcons (Kirk Cousins) made early splashes.
Meanwhile, veteran journeymen continue to find homes. That includes Jacoby Brissett (New England Patriots), Sam Darnold (Minnesota Vikings), Tyrod Taylor (New York Giants), Gardner Minshew (Las Vegas Raiders) and Drew Lock (New York Giants).

No longer seen as a starter-caliber quarterback, Garoppolo will likely have to take a deal as a backup. The Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders and Denver Broncos could use help in that regard.
Heck, Garoppolo’s former 49ers team is also in need of a backup after the aforementioned Sam Darnold signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
