Dak Prescott an the Dallas Cowboys are coming off an ugly 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Wild Card Playoffs last week.
For the 30-year-old quarterback and his team, it represents yet another failure in the playoffs. Prescott himself is just 2-5 in his postseason career with the ‘Boys.
It has led to some speculation that the Cowboys will attempt to move off Prescott during the offseason. That’s extremely unlikely. In fact, Dallas is now expected to extend Prescott during the offseason.
An extension certainly makes sense from Dallas’ perspective. Prescott is slated to count nearly $60 million against the cap next season. The Cowboys are currently a projected $11 million over the 2024 NFL salary cap.

Prescott put up the best statistical performance of his career this past season, throwing for 4,516 yards with a league leading 36 touchdown passes compared to just nine interceptions.
Despite the Cowboys’ playoff struggles, there is not a better option out there for America’s Team than Prescott. Owner Jerry Jones knows that. He touched on it during the 2023 season, too.
“Those numbers on those contracts, those types of numbers, especially the big ones, you live with constantly, that’s always on your mind. There’s never a time when it goes away because you’ve got to make the entire thing fit. So, it’s on the mind on a player decision in the middle of the year. So it’s just a fundamental. We expect Dak to be with us a long time.”

Prescott is currently the 12th highest-paid quarterback on an annual basis. He has certainly outplayed that figure, leading to what will likely be a huge raise this coming offseason. Look for any new deal to surpass $50 million on an annual basis.
