The 2022-23 PGA Tour schedule resumes this week in Paradise for the Sentry Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.
Some of golf’s top players who won at least one event last year are on hand for the event, including the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year Scottie Scheffler, who won four times last season.
One new feature to this year’s field is that in addition to last year’s PGA Tour winners, the field is also comprised of those who competed at the Tour Championship last August. That list includes Sahith Theegala and Cameron Young, both of whom did not win a PGA Tour event last year.
Players will be faced with some wide fairways throughout the course as low scores are expected, especially after last year’s result of -34, which marked the lowest regulation score in PGA Tour history.

What channel is the Sentry Tournament of Champions on?
The Sentry Tournament of Champions will primarily be televised between the Golf Channel and NBC. Due to Week 18 of the NFL schedule, NBC and the Golf Channel are splitting the weekend.

How much are the Sentry Tournament of Champions tickets?
To just walk the grounds on Thursday and Friday, it will cost $60. The daily ground prices increase to $65 on Saturday and $75 for Sunday’s final round.
Those who only have grounds access tickets are reminded that up to two children ages 15 and under have free admission with a ticketed adult. In addition, Hawaii residents receive discounts on the grounds using the Kama’aina Tickets presented by Mauna Loa.
If you want to get a ticket in a club or have seats for the 18th hole, tickets at regular price cost as much as $200 throughout the four-day event.

One of the top players in the world not playing is World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, who is the reigning FedEx Cup winner. Previously, McIlroy has had a dozen opportunities to compete in Hawaii for the Sentry Tournament of Champions but has only competed once, which came back in 2019.

Payout for the Sentry Tournament of Champions 2023
This season, the Sentry Tournament of Champions is one of the PGA Tour’s elevated events, which begins this season. The Sentry Tournament of Champions is one of 17 elevated events, including all four majors.
That means that not only will the top 20 PGA Tour Players in the 2022 Player Impact Program (PIP) have committed to the elevated events, but the total purse is also being increased as well.
The purse for the Sentry Tournament of Champions is set for $15 million, a $6.8 million increase from last year and the player who is victorious on Sunday earns $2.7 million.
5 players who can raise the trophy on Sunday
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele won this event in 2019 after firing a final round 62. In the last three years since, Schauffele has finished no worse than 12th, including finishing second after a playoff in 2020.
Schauffele is coming off a strong 2022 with three wins at the Zurich Classic, Travelers Championship and the Genesis Scottish Open.
Tony Finau
Like Schauffele, Tony Finau won three times last year, which has come in his last seven official starts. With Finau’s win in Houston in November, the expectation for the Polynesian golfer rises, especially on the Hawaiian Islands.
Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas is a two-time winner at Kapalua having been victorious in 2017 and 2020. In five of the last six times playing on this course, Thomas has two wins, two third place finishes and a fifth-place finish, which came last year.
The challenge this week will be how he winds affect play. If the winds are anything like 2020, Thomas is in good position for Sunday.
Jon Rahm
In the five times Jon Rahm has played in this tournament, he has finished no worse than 10th, including runner-up finishes in 2018 and last year. And last year came with shooting -33 and still not winning the tournament.
Rahm who shot three 66s and a 61 a dozen months ago, is out to finally get on top for the first time in a star-studded field.
Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay has a couple of fourth place finishes in his four trips to Kapalua, which came in 2020 and 2022. Cantlay started off strong going 66-67 but could not keep up on the weekend, despite shooting 66-67 in his final two rounds.
Cantlay can start his 2023 strong by having a good weekend, he is prime position to be atop the leaderboard on Sunday.
