The New York Mets are expected to place first baseman Pete Alonso on the 10-day injured list before the MLB games today, sidelining the All-Star slugger indefinitely.
Against the Atlanta Braves on June 7, Alonso was hit in the wrist by Charlie Morton’s 97-mph fastball and immediately went down. He later underwent X-rays and a bone scan on Thursday to provide further clarity on the injury.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets are expected to place Alonso on the injured list before Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In a corresponding move, Luis Guillorme is headed to meet the team to fill Alonso’s spot on the active roster.
Later in the day, the New York Mets officially released their findings on Alonso’s x-rays and he was “diagnosed with a bone bruise and a sprain of his left wrist.” He is expected to be re-evaluated in three to four weeks.
Guillorme, a 28-year-old middle infielder, has bounced around between the majors and Triple-A Syracuse this season. Across 68 plate appearances for the Syracuse Mets, Guillorme is slashing .241/397/.352 with a 19.1 percent walk rate. In 68 plate appearances with New York, he slashed .233/.324/.267 in 27 games.
The Mets are expected to make an official announcement later on Friday with details from the result of Alonso’s bone scan and X-rays. However, DiComo reports that Alonso is going to miss multiple weeks of action and will likely require a rehab assignment when he’s close to returning.
In Alonso’s absence, Mark Vientos will slide into an everyday role. The 23-year-old is slashing .162/.179/.243 on the season with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate and 2.6 percent walk rate.
