It had been expected for some time. Reigning NFL and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes signing a restructured contract that once again makes him among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
One day after Mahomes and the Chiefs earned their first win of the season, that has now come to fruition.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mahomes re-worked deal will pay him a whopping $210.6 million between the 2023 and 2026 seasons for an average of $52.65 million. On a per-year basis, this makes Mahomes the second highest-paid quarterback in the NFL behind only Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals ($55 million).

The deal pretty much cuts the remaining years on Mahomes’ contract from eight to three. Remember, he had signed a then-record 10-year, $450 million contract back in 2020. This new deal will allow for Mahomes and the Chiefs to negotiate another extension following the 2026 season. It’s no small thing with the NFL quarterback market continuing to reset itself on a never-ending loop.
Patrick Mahomes stats: 66% completion, 24,772 passing yards, 196 TD, 51 INT, 105.2 QB rating
To say that Mahomes has earned this contract would be an understatement. After Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts received big-money deals, it made sense for Kansas City to work with the two-time NFL and Super Bowl MVP. That’s now the case.
