Elite New York Mets prospect is destroying Triple-A and forcing calls for promotion

While the New York Mets continue to struggle offensively, one of their elite prospects is absolutely tearing the cover off the ball in Triple-A and is making many wonder when he will be called up to the big leagues.

Thus far, the New York Mets’ 2023 campaign has been a disaster. Midway through June, they are four games under .500, 12 back of the first-place Atlanta Braves in the National League East, and five out of the final Wild Card spot. It is the opposite of where this team with a massively bloated payroll expected to be at this point in the season.

Blame could certainly be tossed as the pitching staff which has been a major disappointment this season. However, their everyday players deserve a good share of frustrated comments from fans as well. Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso, Starling Marte, and Francisco Lindor are all having down years compared to last season. And only rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez has offered a boost among the various minor leaguers the team has called up.

However, some more help could be on the horizon. Shortstop Ronny Mauricio has been a name mentioned for several years as one of the organization’s very best prospects. He is ranked fourth in their system on MLB.com and is having a monstrous season so far at their Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse.

During a recent tear last week, he hit two home runs in one game, then followed it up the next night with a home run and three hits. Considering how bad the New York Mets offense has been, it is completely worth calling up Ronny Mauricio at this point.

The natural shortstop is blocked by Francisco Lindor, however, he has been playing a lot at second base and has even gotten some work in left field this season.
