The New York Jets continue to be active in signing former Green Bay Packers players during NFL free agency.
Whether it’s to cater to new quarterback Aaron Rodgers or something completely different, they just can’t stop bringing in the Cheeseheads.
According to multiple media reports, that now includes signing longtime Packers starting safety Adrian Amos. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport notes that the deal is worth up to $4 million for one year.
Amos is now the sixth former Packers player New York has signed since acquiring Rodgers from Green Bay.
- QB: Tim Boyle
- WR: Allen Lazard
- WR: Randall Cobb
- WR: Malik Taylor
- OL: Billy Turner
- S: Adrian Amos
In addition to this, this New York Jets hired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in the same role after he was one-and-done as the Denver Broncos’ head coach.
As for the signing of Amos, there certainly is a need at safety in Jersey. New York acquired Chuck Clark from the Baltimore Ravens earlier in the offseason. It also has Jordan Whitehead projected to start at strong safety.
Adrian Amos career stats: 636 tackles, 48 passes defended, 10 INT
A fifth-round pick of the Chicago Bears back in 2015, Amos has started all 82 games over the past five seasons. He came over to Green Bay on a four-year, $36 million contract ahead of the 2019 season.
Unfortunately, Amos’ struggles in coverage led to his departure from the Packers. Last season saw the safety yield a 70% completion and 107.7 QB rating when targeted. Despite this, the deal he received from New York seems to suggest that the veteran will battle for a starting spot during training camp and the preseason.
