The Las Vegas Raiders bolstered their offense for 2023 today by signing the man many saw as the best wide receiver available in NFL free agency.
The Las Vegas Raiders landed one of the top headlines on day one of free agency when they filled their hole at quarterback by signing San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots veteran Jimmy Garoppolo. Well, on Tuesday the team scooped up another player that was one of the best at their position on the market and is very familiar with head coach Josh McDaniels.
This morning, NFL network league insider Ian Rapoport broke the news that the Las Vegas Raiders had come to terms on a contract with free agent wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. The deal is a very team-friendly pact for three years, worth as much as $33 million, and will include $21 million guaranteed. Some NFL insiders felt Meyers could get as much as $15 million on the open market.

It is the second day in a row that the Raiders signed a player that is well-versed in the offensive schemes and style of Josh McDaniels. This is understandable after the Las Vegas Raiders offense stumbled often in 2022 despite having star talents like Derek Carr, Davante Adams, and Josh Jacobs on the unit.
The move also makes rumors that the team could look to trade four-year veteran Hunter Renfrow all the more possible and likely, with a better fit for the offense in Meyers now on the roster.
Jakobi Meyers has had an impressive career in the league after going undrafted out of North Carolina State in 2019. Throughout his tenure with the New England Patriots, he improved every season and seemed poised for a breakout year in 2022.
However, the Patriots offense was a mess under now-demoted offensive coordinator Matt Patrica, and he only racked up 804 yards, but he did pull in a career-high six touchdowns in 2022. Now, in an offense that he is a better fit for and playing opposite Davante Adams, Meyers should have the first 1,000-yard receiving season of his career in 2023.
