Draymond Green not on talking terms with young Golden State Warriors star

The drama we saw surrounding Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors a season ago apparently has not died down.

Despite the trade of embattled young guard Jordan Poole, bitterness is the name of the game between him and Green. Remember, it was last September that Green punched Poole during a practice in training camp. The two didn’t have the same relationship since then. Green is still talking about the incident in question, leading to more unnecessary drama.

Unfortunately, the four-time NBA champion continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. According to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area, Green has a non-existent relationship with young Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga.

“Draymond Green & Jonathan Kuminga’s non-relationship] is a problem and it can only be fixed by Draymond. The new contract implies the Warriors believe he can fix it, but around the league there are a lot of people saying ‘I don’t know.'”

Head coach Steve Kerr and first-year general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. can’t like the sound of this. While Golden State returns its core three and added future Hall of Famer Chris Paul to the mix, it will be relying on youngsters to take on larger roles next season.

The No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Kuminga played well down the stretch last season. That’s why it was so surprising that Kerr took him out of the Warriors’ playoff rotation before the 2022 NBA champions fell to the Los Angele Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Add in this report regarding Kuminga’s relationship with Green, and one has to wonder what is happening behind the scenes.

From an on-court perspective, Golden State lacks depth compared to other Western Conference contenders. That’s primarily due to its inability to sign any free agent above the league minimum. In short, both Kuminga and fellow 2021 lottery pick Moses Moody must step up.

Draymond Green continues to make unfortunate headlines

draymond green drama

Just recently Green was seen on social media having a back-and-forth with Poole’s father. It was not a good look for either party. This comes after questionable comments surrounding new teammate Chris Paul.

“I’ve publicly said I don’t like Chris Paul before. I’m just not going to be like ‘Oh man that changed now he my teammate,'” Green said recently. “No, I look forward to talking amongst men.”

Way to endear yourself to a new teammate, 12-time All-Star and future first ballot Hall of Famer. Honestly, we’re not sure what good comes of Green talking anymore.

This latest drama surrounding Green comes just a few weeks after he signed a four-year, $100 million contract to return to the Golden State Warriors. One has to wonder whether the team is now having buyer’s remorse.
