Draymond Green nets $100 million contract, re-signs with Golden State Warriors

All of that drama surrounding Draymond Green and whether he’d return to the Golden State Warriors can now be thrown out the window.

In the opening minutes of NBA free agency, the four-time NBA champion has agreed to re-sign with Golden State.

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the deal is worth $100 million over four years and will take the 33-year-old Green through the 2026-27 season.

Green, 33, had initially opted out of his $27.59 million contract for next season. He had been linked to the Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons, among other teams. But leading up to free agency, it became clear that the priority was to return to the Warriors for a 12th season. That has now come to fruition.

Once the Warriors traded Jordan Poole for veteran point guard Chris Paul earlier this summer, it seemed to be a clear indication that they were going all in as the team looks to keep its narrow championship window open. By signing Green to a $100 million extension, the team is doing just that.

Green has been among the most-important figures during the Golden State Warriors’ dynastic run. Despite some on-court issues and the fight with Pool during training camp last year, new general manager Mike Dunleavy made it a priority to bring him back.

In reality, this is a good deal for both Golden State and Green. The team lowers his cap figure for the 2023-24 season while the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year receives one final long-term contract.
