Golden State Warriors reportedly a lock to sign top target in NBA free agency

Multiple reports claim the Golden State Warriors have a particular veteran at the top of their NBA free agency “wish list” and are expected to sign him soon after the market opens on Friday.

After winning another championship last June, the Golden State Warriors had a tumultuous season en route to failing in defense of their crown and losing to rivals the Los Angeles Lakers in the semifinals of the 2023 NBA playoffs. Their elimination sent a clear message to the organization that while they are still a good team, they need to make some roster changes.

That started last week when they pulled off a blockbuster deal that sent young star Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards and landed them future Hall-of-Famer Chris Paul. Yet, when it comes to NBA free agency, the Golden State Warriors don’t have the flexibility to make anywhere near as notable a move. Nevertheless, they still plan to be active in the market.

On Friday, just hours before players and teams can start talking, ESPN NBA reporter Marc J. Spears claimed that “signing swingmen and frontcourt players who shoot well at minimum deals” is the team strategy in the next few days and “high on Warriors free agent wish list is big man Dario Saric.”

Well, it seems like the Golden State Warriors will likely win the pursuit of the seven-year NBA veteran. Following Spears’ revelation, veteran Warriors beat writer Monte Poole claimed that “Dario Sarić to Warriors is high probability [and] ‘likely'” after they made him a top priority through back channels in recent days.

  • Dario Saric stats (’22-’23): 7.4 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 0.9 APG, 39% 3PT

While the organization landing Saric won’t blow fans’ hair back, he is a player they have a high value on because he is a strong shooter for a big man, is a well-rounded player with a high basketball IQ and is only 29 years old.
