DraftKings Week 5 picks: Top value plays and most overrated

NFL Week 5 is already here and it’s time to get those DraftKings lineups in place. So, let’s take a look at some DraftKings value plays as well as some overrated picks that simply are not worth the splurge this week.

Can we rely on a dark horse AFC East quarterback to deliver a grand DFS performance against one of the worst defenses in the league? We hope so. Can a stud rookie fantasy running back top the charts at his position once again? From these value picks to an overrated wide receiver stuck playing on a bumbling offense, you might be surprised about our best DraftKings Week 5 picks, as well as some players set up for failure.

DraftKings Week 5 picks

DraftKings Week 5 picks: Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs, $8,200

Priced highest in DraftKings, Mahomes is still a Week 5 value play in Minnesota when we can finally expect that big fantasy performance he is due. The Vikings have surrendered the 10th-most DK fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and have only managed one INT. Look for Mahomes and the Chiefs to play less scattered this week.

C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans, 6,000

While Stroud’s road opponent, the Falcons, have been moderately stingy against quarterbacks, the young rookie seems to be matchup-proof. Stroud has thrown for six TDs versus zero interceptions and has averaged 303 passing yards per game. At only $6,000, Stroud is an excellent DFS value play in Week 5.

Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams, $5,600

Priced as a tremendous value in DraftKings at QB, Stafford has continued to rack up tons of fantasy points in passing yards. The same should continue against Philadelphia with the Eagles giving up the seventh-most QB fantasy points on the season. That’s especially true with Cooper Kupp set to return in Week 5.

Zach Wilson, New York Jets $4,900

Those who want dirt-cheap at QB in Week 5, knock at Wilson’s door this Sunday. He’s got a dream fantasy matchup at the Broncos on tap. In four games, the Broncos have allowed 13 passing TDs, 1,210 passing yards, and the most DraftKings fantasy points to QBs. They should give Wilson the red carpet treatment without a problem.

DraftKings Week 5 picks: Running Backs

Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons, $7,700

As the second-highest priced RB at $7,700 in DraftKings, Bijan Robinson is a sweet value play in Week 5. At home against a Texans defense that has yielded the ninth-most RB fantasy points, Robinson is poised for another monster DraftKings cash in.

David Montgomery, Detroit Lions, $6,600

Montgomery is one of the best DraftKings value plays at RB in Week 5 with the Panthers heading to Detroit. On the season, the Panthers have ceded the fourth-most RB fantasy points (29.6) in DraftKings as well as seven TDs. With the Lions likely missing Amon-Ra St. Brown, Monty is going to eat!

De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins, $6,100

Achane is definitely not a one-hit wonder, making him a steal of a play in DraftKings in Week 5. With the Giants — whose offense can’t stay on the field to save its life — coming to town, Achane is going to get plenty of touches. That equates to boatloads of Achane fantasy points coming your way.

Breece Hall, New York Jets, $5,400

Fire up Breece Hall, who is an incredible DFS value play in Week 5 facing those worn-out Broncos. Even on the road, the Jets’ offense should completely thrive against an NFL defense that has allowed a league-high 45.5 RB DraftKings points per contest. This should be a goldmine game for Hall!

DraftKings Week 5 picks: Wide Receivers

Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams, $7,700

Whether Cooper Kupp is limited does not matter. Nacua, priced $900 cheaper than Kupp, is the DraftKings value play for Week 5. The Rams should have to pass plenty to keep up with the Eagles and they will find ways to get Nacua (who has been targeted a massive 52 times in four games) the ball.

Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens, $5,500

Zay Flowers is a DFS value in Week 5 playing that awful Steelers defense. At his affordable price, Flowers will face a defense that has given away the second-most WR points in Draftkings. This includes six WR touchdowns. Perhaps Flowers scores his first of the year on Sunday.

Allen Lazard, New York Jets, $3,900

To save tons of salary, Lazard could make for a sneaky DraftKings value play in Week 5 facing that dumpster-fire Broncos defense. That’s the one that has yielded 44.6 WR DraftKings points per game.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee Titans $3,500

About as cheap as it gets, Westbrook-Ikine could pay off in DraftKings in Week 5. The Titans face the Colts who have given up the eighth-most WR fantasy points. With Treylon Burks looking murky to play, more targets should be headed Westbrook-Ikhine’s way.

DraftKings Week 5 picks: Tight Ends

Darren Waller, New York Giants, $5,400

Waller might have just one last chance to prove he is a value play at TE facing the Dolphins. The Giants are a train wreck and need to change their game plan and not giving Waller enough targets is criminal. If this can be made right, Waller could thrive against Miami, currently giving up the ninth-most DK points (13) to tight ends.

Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals, $3,500

An extreme value play at TE in Week 5 is Zach Ertz. At this DraftKings salary, Ertz is hard to pass up playing a Bengals defense that is the fourth-worst in defending tight ends.

DraftKings overrated plays Week 5

Quarterbacks:

Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts, $7,000

Overrated for Week 5, Richardson is the fifth-highest-priced DK quarterback, facing the Titans. To date, the Titans have allowed only five passing touchdowns and zero on the ground to opposing QBs. Richardson could come up a little short when some of our above-mentioned value-play quarterbacks look poised to reward more.

Running Backs:

Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals, $6,400

The Bengals offense is so hard to trust and Mixon last scored 8.6 fantasy points in DraftKings. Even playing the Cardinals, it’s a risk to spend this kind of salary on an overrated Mixon who comes in as the seventh-highest price RB.

Wide Receivers:

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints, $6,900

I promoted Olave last Sunday, and this week, he’s being demoted as an overrated DraftKings play stuck with his bumbling offense. At $6,900 Olave is too risky with Derek Carr playing banged up on the road in New England. After getting rolled last Sunday, the Pats are going to aim to make things miserable for the Saints.

Tight Ends:

T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings, $6,500

Coming from his worst game of the season, Hockenson is pretty pricey, ranking second-highest in DraftKings salary after Travis Kelce. Note that the Vikings play the Chiefs who have only allowed one TE touchdown in four games.
