Buffalo Bills star adds to Derrick Henry trade talk as rumors heat up

Could two-time NFL rushing champion Derrick Henry land with the Buffalo Bills in a blockbuster trade this offseason?

It’s somewhat of a hot topic around the league’s watercooler with free agency slated to open up in less than a month.

The Tennessee Titans cut a ton of fat from their roster recently, releasing a ton of veterans to save cash under the NFL salary cap. That list included three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan.

It’s not yet known how King Henry will take to this news. But it’s pretty clear that the Titans are building more for the future than 2023 after closing up shop on the 2022 campaign with seven consecutive losses.

As rumors of Henry heading to Western New York heat up, Buffalo Bills star Von Miller posted a photo of himself working out with the Titans’ star running back. Said photo included a pretty interesting emoji.

It could very well just be two Pro Bowlers working out together in the offseason. It could also be something else.

Miller is not afraid to rattle the proverbial cage and play into rumors that are taking place around the NFL. This is obviously the most-recent example of that.

New Titans general manager Ran Carthon is obviously looking to build the Titans in his mold mere weeks after taking over in Nashville. With Ryan Tannehill’s future up in the air and a roster that doesn’t seem capable of contention in the AFC, it makes sense to move off Henry for some assets.

We’re talking about a 29-year-old running back who is entering the final year of his contract. Once Tennessee returns to relevance, Henry’s prime will have been a thing of the past. In short, he likely doesn’t fit into their long-term plans.

The same thing can’t be said for a Buffalo Bills team that’s in win-now mode and coming off a premature exit in the NFL Playoffs. In short, quarterback Josh Allen needs more balance on offense. Henry would certainly provide that.

Henry finished second to impending free agent Josh Jacobs in rushing yards this past season. This came after the former Alabama star won the NFL rushing title in 2019 and 2020.
