It looks like the Boston Celtics have been kicking the tires on a potential trade for Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard.
One of the biggest stories in the NBA over the last week has been the future of seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard. After weeks of speculation that he could finally ask for an escape from Portland, he officially requested to be traded last week. It was a move that only came after the organization decided not to trade their two first-round draft picks for a star and could not add one in NBA free agency.

Since the request, there have been various reports about the teams that could potentially jump into the chase for the star guard. However, it seems that Lillard’s wishlist for his next home starts and ends with the Miami Heat. Unfortunately for him and the Trail Blazers, the Heat reportedly have not made an offer yet that has impressed Portland.
Well, there is another organization that has the means and the championship aspirations that may make Lillard expand his options.
Boston Celtics showing strong interest in Damian Lillard trade
During a Wednesday edition on ESPN’s “NBA Today,” league insider Ramona Shelburne reported that “the Boston Celtics have the ability to get this [trade] done … I know they have expressed some interest already in this.” However, she did warn that from what she has heard, Lillard has not shown interest in a potential move to Boston.
That could of course change if the Heat can’t find a third or fourth team that can improve a potential offer to the Trail Blazers. Fellow ESPN NBA reporter Zach Lowe claimed on that same “NBA Today” episode that a package from the Boston Celtics could include Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, and draft picks. Furthering the possibility of the Celtics becoming serious players in the Damian Lillard chase is new reports that superstar Jayson Tatum has also been trying to recruit him to Beantown since he made his trade request last week.
The Boston Celtics have already made a blockbuster trade this summer for Wizards star Kristaps Porzingis as the team continues to retool their roster to finally land their first NBA title since 2008.
