Update: Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said following Thursday’s win that Mark Andrews likely suffered a season-ending ankle injury. An MRI will confirm the diagnosis.
Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is their second-most important player behind former league MVP Lamar Jackson.
Baltimore can’t afford to lose Jackson to a long-term injury and expect to contend for a trip to the Super Bowl. In the Ravens’ first drive Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Pro Bowler went down with an apparently significant injury.
Andrews was down on the turf in pain after a tackle from Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson. Jackson threw his helmet down in disgust after seeing the injury.

This wasn’t necessarily a dirty play from Wilson. Rather, it’s the type of tackle that comes into question. The NFL is considering banning the “hip-drop” tackle after several serious injuries having been a product of it. The most notable is the injury Patrick Mahomes suffered in last season’s playoffs against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While he was able to remain active and lead Kansas City to the Super Bowl title, it led to renewed questions about the tackle itself.
As for Mark Andrews, Baltimore initially listed him as questionable to return with an ankle injury. He was then ruled out and headed for X-rays while reportedly using crutches to get around. The three-time Pro Bowler entered Week 11 having caught 43 passes for 521 yards and six touchdowns.
