Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is coming off an up-and-down rookie season in the NFL after they made him the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have been linked to a Deshaun Watson trade at nearly every turn over the past few weeks.

Once it became clear that Watson wanted the Houston Texans to trade him, Miami came up as a potential destination. Obviously, a Deshaun Watson trade would also include Tua Tagovailoa heading to Houston. The former Alabama standout spoke to that during a recent appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.

“Honestly, I’m not too sure. I can’t control things that I can’t control. What I can do is continue to work hard,” Tagovailoa said when asked if he’ll be back with the Dolphins in 2021, via Josh Tolentino of The Athletic.

That doesn’t necessarily sound like someone who has a great level of confidence that he’ll be back in South Beach next season. Tagovailoa, 22, recorded 14 total touchdowns against five interceptions en route to leading the Dolphins to a 6-3 record in nine starts. With that said, he was also benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick late in the season with a spot in the playoffs on the line.

What would a Tua Tagovailoa, Deshaun Watson trade look like?

Obviously, Miami would have to include the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft as well as Tua to land Watson in a blockbuster trade. Interestingly enough, said selection was originally with the Texans before they moved it to Miami for Laremy Tunsil. But we digress.

The Houston Texans are said to be looking for at least two first-round picks and a top-end young defensive player for Watson. In terms of a potential deal with Miami, potential NFL Defensive Player of the Year, cornerback Xavien Howard could be an option.

For a Dolphins team coming off a surprising 10-win season, Watson would be seen as a major upgrade over Tua Tagovailoa. That much is for certain.

However, this is the same team that was targeting Tua years before the 2020 NFL Draft this past April. Can general manager Chris Grier implore owner Stephen Ross to pull off the blockbuster? That remains to be seen.

What we do know is that Deshaun Watson trade rumors will pick up big time now that Matthew Stafford has been traded from the Lions to the Rams. Apparently, this is not lost on Tagovailoa.
