Speculation about a potential Russell Wilson trade from the Seattle Seahawks has died down some over the past couple weeks. Once Seattle reportedly turned down an offer of three first-round picks and two starter-caliber defenders from the Chicago Bears for Wilson, it became clear that the Seahawks’ front office had no intention of moving him.
That’s now apparently the case. According to recently-resigned defensive end Carlos Dunlap, Wilson made it clear to him that the quarterback would be a member of the Seahawks in 2021.
It always seemed to be a bit ridiculous to believe that the Seahawks would move on from Wilson. Despite some major issues on the quarterback’s part as it relates to the direction of the organization, he’s just too important to move on from.
Russell Wilson previously noted publicly that he would like to have some more say in player personnel matters. He’s also been unhappy about pass protection from the Seahawks’ offensive line and head coach Pete Carroll’s ironclad control over the organization.

Will Russell Wilson eventually be traded?
Depending on how things shake out for Seattle during the 2021 NFL season, there’s a chance that this situation could come to a head next March. The rift between the Super Bowl-quarterback and his organization has been pretty substantial. And as we’ve seen with Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans, said relationship can take a turn within a blink of an eye.
With that said, recent reports suggest that the Seahawks are looking to make a pretty big move in order to cater to Russell Wilson. What that might be is anyone’s best guess.
Seattle has a league-low three picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. That includes a second-rounder and two late-round selections. Obviously, said big move will not be done through the draft.
Instead, there’s a chance that the Seahawks mortgage even more of their future in order to trade for a star player. Whether that’s a sustainable team-building philosophy remains to be seen.
What we do know is that the Seahawks are also without a first-round pick in next year’s draft stemming from the Jamal Adams trade with the New York Jets. For Russell Wilson, it’s evident that the lack of picks could be one of the issues behind the scenes.
For now, everything seems to have worked itself out between the two sides. The question now is whether this will remain the case over the long-term.
