Philadelphia Eagles could trade Zach Ertz or Dallas Goedert in next week

The 2-3 Philadelphia Eagles are looking to even their record against the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Thursday Night Football.”

As always, there’s a pretty big backdrop to this game for Philadelphia. With the always-active general manager Howie Roseman at the helm, these Eagles continue to be linked in NFL trade rumors on a never-ending loop.

Over the past several months that has included the possibility Philadelphia could move off Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz. Meanwhile, there’s an open question whether Roseman and Co. plan on extending young tight end Dallas Goedert.

Speaking on the Fox Sports pre-game show Thursday night, NFL insider Jay Glazer reported that Philadelphia is receiving calls about both tight ends. He added that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if one of the two pass-catchers were moved within the next week.

Ertz’s inclusion in trade rumors is not surprising. The three-time Pro Bowler saw a major downtrick in production last season — catching 36 passes for a career-low 335 yards. Thus far this season, the 30-year-old veteran has caught 14 passes in five games while boasting a substandard 56% catch rate.

With that said, Goedert being on the trade block is pretty interesting. The former second-round pick from South Dakota State is seen as one of the better young tight ends in the game. Over the course of the previous two seasons, Goedert tallied a combined 104 receptions for 1,131 yards while hauling in 68% of his targets.

More than anything, the Eagles potentially moving Goedert could have to do with finances. He’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and is in line for a huge payday once free agency opens next March. Based on the production we’ve seen from him, something akin to the four-year, $50 million deal Jonnu Smith inked with the New England Patriots last March could make sense.
