New York Knicks and New York Rangers fans won’t like James Dolan’s latest response to hopes he’ll sell both teams

Sorry, New York Knicks and New York Rangers fans, James Dolan won’t sell either team, even if their value reaches historic levels.

The NBA’s Knicks and NHL’s Rangers are two of the most recognizable brands in their respective leagues. Sure, the pair of franchises have not racked up a bunch of championships during their history, but they each have devoted fanbases willing to ride along for the highs and lows.

However, it seems that since owner James Dolan took over a larger role of overseeing the two franchises in 1999, their fanbases have endured more low points. Especially the Knicks — which also happens to be the team the billionaire has been far more hands-on with.

There has been an outcry for years for Dolan to sell the pair of iconic franchises. However, during a rare interview, the 69-year-old explained why he has zero intention of selling, no matter how many billions he could get in a sale.

New York Knicks won’t be sold while James Dolan is still alive

“I could pass it on, but I could never walk away,” Dolan said on Jalen Brunson’s “The Roommates Show” recently. “We’re a controlled company, controlled by my family. You know some of my offspring. Plus, I have brothers and sisters with kids. The Knicks, the Rangers, and the Garden are a one-of-a-kind asset. My hope is these kids grow up and take my place. That’s what I did with my dad.”

When asked about the skyrocketing value of North American sports teams and what they could be worth in the next decade, Dolan claimed he doesn’t worry about it because selling the clubs will never be a thought for him.

“It’s like the stock price. Stock price is only important to you on two days. The day you buy it and the day you sell it. I already bought it and I’m not thinking about selling it. So I guess I don’t have to worry.”

The Washington Commanders sold for $6.5 billion in 2023, while the Boston Celtics sold for $6.1 billion this month. The Knicks could likely sell for very close to the same number if majority control was up for grabs.
