The New York Jets are going to be in the market for a new starting quarterback after the disaster that was Zach Wilson during the 2022 campaign.

Pretty much since the season came to an end, New York has been linked to four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers in a trade from the Green Bay Packers.

While Rodgers remains undecided about returning to the NFL for another season, rumors linking him to Jersey have not died down.

In speaking with ESPN’s Dianna Russini during the red carpet ahead of Thursday’s NFL Honors show from Arizona, Jets owner Woody Johnson opened up about the possibility of acquiring Rodgers.

Johnson did not mention Rodgers by name for fear of potential tampering allegations. But it became clear that he’s 100% in on bringing in the future Hall of Famer.

“You want the best quarterback that you can get to lead the Jets. I can’t really talk about him, because he’s a member of another club, but everybody recognizes talent when they see it.”

Dating back to late last year, Rodgers has been linked to the Jets. Their decision to hire former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in the same role has recently added a new layer to these rumors.

Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets could very well be in the cards

A lot of this is going to depend on Green Bay’s asking price and whether Rodgers commits to playing more than one season.

As of right now, the enigmatic quarterback is taking some time to decide whether he even wants to play in 2023. What we do know is that New York is prepared to go “all-in” for the star signal caller. And in reality, he’d end up being one of the greatest quarterbacks in franchise history. We’re talking about a track record that compares to some of the best the league has had to offer.

Green Bay’s asking price for Rodgers is said to start at two first-round picks. The New York Jets are slated to select 13th overall and boast their full boat load of picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. They are well-positioned to land Rodgers if the quarterback sees this as a fit.

Apparently, Woody Johnson is down. And in reality, his vote is all that matters within the Jets’ organization.
