New York Giants to interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores on Thursday

The search for the next New York Giants head coach is heating up, as the team will interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores on Thursday.

Flores who turns 41 next month, went 24-25 in his three seasons as Dolphins coach. This past season the Dolphins got off to a slow start beginning the season 1-7. But they would win eight out of their last nine games and finished the season 9-8.

One of those wins was a 20-9 victory over the Giants in Week 9 in Miami.

After a strong finish by the Dolphins, many expected Flores’s job to be safe. But on Jan. 10, the Dolphins relieved Flores of his duties.

Now the Brooklyn native will have another opportunity to become a head coach again as he will meet with the Giants brass on Thursday. There had been some thought that a Flores hiring could eventually lead to Deshaun Watson becoming a member of the Giants, but that won’t be happening.

New York Giants’ decision-makers have been busy

John Mara, Steve Tisch, and new general manager Joe Schoen have been busy this week. On Monday, they met with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, and on Tuesday as they interviewed Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. Then on Wednesday, they interviewed current Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

They’re expected to have an in-person interview with Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier on Friday. Another candidate on the Giants radar is Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, who they previously interviewed via teleconference. Anarumo has ties with the Giants as he was their defensive backs coach in 2018.

It’s been rumored the Giants could make a decision on their next head coach within the next couple of days. The hiring of the next head coach will undoubtedly be the biggest decision that Schoen will make as GM, as he tries to restore credibility to a once-proud franchise.
