New York Giants doing due diligence on Brian Flores

Today the New York Giants will introduce their new general manager Joe Schoen at an 11:45 AM ET press conference. Once that concludes, news about their next head coach could follow shortly after.

The Giants are already in the advanced stages of their search, having brought several candidates back for a second interview, including Brian Daboll of the Buffalo Bills. Leslie Frazier will return for a second interview on Friday.

While the connections to the Bills are nice since that’s the organization that Schoen hails from, giving him experience working with both Daboll and Frazier, but the Giants were also quick to point out, hiring Schoen isn’t a “package deal with a head coach”. Meaning the Giants won’t rush to hire an affiliate of the Bills, leaving the door open for other interested candidates.

Brian Flores re-emerging as New York Giants HC candidate?

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the Giants have been doing their due diligence on former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores by talking to some of his previous colleagues. Leonard adds the reports they’ve received have been “glowing and encouraging”.

The G-Men are interviewing current defensive coordinator Patrick Graham today for their head coaching vacancy, and are scheduled for a second interview with Flores on Thursday. Graham could ultimately end up staying in his role as DC under coach Flores, if that’s the route they go. Flores and Graham worked together on the Dolphins and Patriots.

In fact, by speaking to Graham, the Giants could instead by picking his brain more about Flores, gauging the former’s interest in working under Flores once again as his coordinator.

For Giants fans, if Flores ends up being the hire it would be hard to ignore the dangling carrot that includes acquiring a certain Pro Bowl QB, giving them the face of the franchise they haven’t had since Ben McAdoo decided to bench Eli Manning for Geno Smith.
