Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett publicly requested a trade this offseason, sparking NFL rumors about potential landing spots and the cost of acquiring him. While the Browns front office is adamant about keeping the Defensive Player of the Year, many around the league see the situation playing out differently.

Garrett, age 29, became the fourth-fastest player to reach 100 career sacks in 2024 after recording his seventh consecutive season with double-digit sacks. Heading into his age-29 season, the former No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft is adamant about playing for a contender.

  • Myles Garrett stats (ESPN): 28 QB hits, 22 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 11.5 stuffs, 3 forced fumbles

That won’t be the Browns next season, not with the Deshaun Watson contract still significantly limiting what the club can do to improve the roster. While Cleveland wants to remain competitive in 2025, it doesn’t have a path to Super Bowl contention and Garrett wants to compete for the Lombardi Trophy.

Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post spoke to NFL general managers about Garrett’s situation in Cleveland. “It’s going to be a win-win. They’re going to get two [first-round picks] for him, and he’ll get to a winning team. if he does Howie a solid, maybe Howie will bring [Berry] back a year from now when [Browns owner Jimmy] Haslam fires everybody,”

The Eagles will have a void to fill at edge rusher with Josh Sweat likely to depart in NFL free agency and veteran Brandon Graham contemplating retirement. Philadelphia’s defensive line could be even thinner next season with Milton Williams likely to command $20-plus million annually on the open market.

Garrett would fill the void, joining the best defense in football. He would also likely be open to signing a multi-year extension with a franchise that has demonstrated its commitment to competing for a championship every year. If the cost is only the 32nd overall pick and a first-round pick in 2026, plus smaller assets, there would be plenty of incentive for the Eagles to make a deal.
