LIV Golf players at The Masters: Why they can play and who is playing

Over the last couple of years, one of the biggest decisions when it comes to playing on the PGA Tour or on the LIV Golf Circuit has been the participation in major tournaments, like the Masters.

That’s especially for those who are not already qualified. There are less opportunities LIV Golf players have as a result of fewer chances to earn world golf ranking points, which is one of the many qualifications to play in the Masters. However, there are other ways to play in the first major of the calendar year, including winning the event.

Going after the iconic green jacket is every golfer’s dream, whether it be a player’s first or their sixth. Putting on the green jacket is symbol of the difficult challenge the course brought after at least 72 holes, in addition to fighting against their competitors to be the one to win after a mentally draining four days.

Here is everything you need to know about LIV Golf players playing in the Masters this week.

The Masters has 20 different qualifications to compete in their tournament.

In regard to LIV Golf players, seven fulfill the first qualification of being a past Masters champion, which earns a player a lifetime entry into the tournament.

There are others who qualify under the first 12 players, including ties, in the previous Masters Tournament.

Winning another major tournament – U.S. Open, The Open Championship or the PGA Championship – also guarantees a spot, which gives DeChambeau a tee time at one of biggest events of the year.

Speaking of the other three majors, if a player consists of the first four players and ties at either of three major tournaments, they earn a spot at Augusta.

Another way the LIV Golf players have entered the Masters include being one of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking for the previous calendar year, which benefitted Adrian Meronk.

The Masters Committee also has the discretion to invite international players not otherwise exempt, which Niemann received his entry.
