The Kansas City Chiefs earned their second consecutive Super Bowl title this past February despite some major issues at wide receiver.

It’s a testament to what Patrick Mahomes can do on offense as well as the Chiefs’ elite-level defense from a season ago.

This doesn’t have general manager Brett Veach and Co. resting on their laurels. Instead, the Chiefs have been linked to multiple wide receivers in NFL free agency.

We can now add a surprise name to the mix in that of Cincinnati Bengals veteran Tyler Boyd. According to Mark Kaboly of The Athletic, Kansas City joins the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets in being in on Boyd.

For now, it would stand to reasont that Boyd’s preference would be the Steelers. They traded starting receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers earlier in the week and need more help at this position. Meanwhile, Boyd is a native of the Pittsburgh suburb of Clairton and starred for the Pitt Panthers in college.

Despite that, th Chiefs are obviously an attractive destination. They boast a two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP. The Chiefs are going to be consistent contenders for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, they certainly have a need at wide receiver.

Kansas City’s leading receiver from the wide receiver position a season ago was then-rookie Rashee Rice with 79 catches. Kadarius Toney came in second with 27.

Boyd, 29, would be an obvious upgrde. The former second-round pick spent his first eight NFL seasons in Cincinnati. He recorded conesecutive 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018 and 2019 before the likes of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins joined the Bengals.

Even with those two in the mix, Boyd is averaging 68 receptions for nearly 800 yards while hauling in 71% of his targets over the past four seasons.

We fully expect Kansas City to attack the wide receiver position during the 2024 NFL Draft. It has also been linked to Curtis Samuel of the Washington Commanders. But Boyd seems like a logical fit.
