Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has turned it around after some struggles in his first season replacing franchise legend Aaron Rodgers.

The former first-round pick from Utah State headed into the NFL Playoffs on an absolute roll as he led the Packers to a surprise playoff appearance.

All of this came after some major questions about his ability to be a franchise guy. Remember, Love had started all of one game in three seasons ahead of 2023 after Green Bay made him the No. 26 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

With Love having performed at an elite clip to close the 2023 regular season, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that the Packers will engage in extension talks with the 25-year-old signal caller this spring.

Green Bay signed Love to a one-year, $13.5 million contract extension last offseason. It came after the team decided against picking up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal. In reality, this gave the Packers a season to decide whether he could be the franchise quarterback. He more than proved that in 2023.

Love struggled through his first nine starts during the regular season, throwing 14 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Since then, he’s simply been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Over the course of his final eight regular-season starts, Love threw 18 touchdowns compared to one interception. That’s simply sensational.

Love’s current deal has him slated to become a free agent after the 2024 season. It makes perfect sense for the Packers to engage in contract extension talks with him.

The question here is market value. Love is an interesting case-study in that he doesn’t have the same experience as others who have signed lucrative long-term deals such as Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert.

He’s not going to net anywhere near the $52-plus million both received on extensions ahead of the 2023 season. Instead, we’re looking at something in the $35-$40 million range. Whether that’s enough for Love to sign on the dotted line remains to be seen.
