The Carson Wentz trade to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday had the gridiron world talking. It’s not the Deshaun Watson blockbuster that many expect to happen here soon. But it does changes the dynamics for both Indianapolis and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Apparently, Watson’s current personal quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery took note of the Wentz trade. To say he is not happy that his client remains a member of the Texans would be an understatement.

“What’s the criteria for a quarterback asking to get traded, then actually getting traded? Asking for a friend,” Avery wrote on Twitter.

There’s certainly a lot to sift through here. First off, one of Watson’s closest associates is now publicly confirming that the reigning NFL passing champion has in fact requested a trade. Prior to this tweet, that had not been the case.

While NFL rumors continue to link the Texans to a Deshaun Watson trade, they remain steadfast in their unwillingness to even discuss the parameters of a deal with interested teams. This seems to be what Avery is getting at in his tweet.

This also comes one day after Avery, a known quarterback guru, took to the radio airwaves to dissect Deshaun Watson’s situation. Simply put, he notes that the quarterback wants to be put in a position where he can thrive.

Avery is known around the football world for working with young quarterbacks. He’s had a ton of success in that regard and is a widely respected individual. When he talks, it makes sense to listen.

Deshaun Watson trade updates

The Wentz trade does very little to change what is going to happen with Watson. Houston was not going to trade the Pro Bowler to a division rival. Philadelphia acquiring a third-round pick and conditional second-round selection won’t impact what the Texans receive for Watson.

Right now, two teams sit atop Watson’s wish list. That includes the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. Both teams are still in need of an upgrade at quarterback after missing out on Matthew Stafford and showing limited interest in Carson Wentz.

With that said, a number of other teams are interested in Deshaun Watson. That includes the Chicago Bears, who grew impatient in Wentz trade talks before he was moved to Indianapolis. The Miami Dolphins are also seen as a prime candidate to land the elite 25-year-old signal caller, as the Carolina Panthers.

Will the Wentz trade expedite things? We’re not too sure. What we do know is that multiple teams are waiting in the wings with trade offers for Watson. It’s now up to Houston actually engaging in trade talks, which has not happened yet.

The more we hear from Deshaun Watson indirectly through the camp, the more pressure the Texans are going to be under to move him. This magnified by the fact that he legitimately has no relationship with the Houston organization right now.

Stay tuned.
