Derrius Guice drawing praise from coaches for dedicated approach

Washington rookie running back Derrius Guice

Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, a lot of negative reports were spread about the character of former LSU running back Derrius Guice. Early in his time as a rookie with the Washington Redskins, however, Guice has done nothing but impress his new coaches.

ESPN’s John Keim passed along a rookie report on Guice Tuesday, noting the rookie’s approach to the meeting room has been particularly impressive.

“Derrius Guice has drawn praise from coaches for how he is in the meeting room, with running backs coach Randy Jordan saying he asks questions to get answers — not just to ask them.”

Keim further described what the coaches like about Guice’s efforts on the practice field, highlighting the fact that he has no issues with motivation.

“On the field, Guice worked in pass protection drills and showed his aggressive nature. But the coaches say they want to make sure he doesn’t overcommit and lose leverage on his man. For him it’s about perfecting technique, not want-to.”

Since the Redskins picked him up late in the second round, he’s done nothing but prove his doubters wrong. Team executive and former star quarterback Doug Williams recently applauded him for overcoming adversity, and made it clear Washington was thrilled to have landed him.

Guice’s talent on the field has never been in question. He was a stud at LSU when healthy, and so far it sounds like he’ll be a star for Washington right out of the gate in 2018.
