Houston Texans coach David Culley on Friday named rookie Davis Mills as the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

“Davis will be the quarterback,” Culley said. “I feel like he gives us the best chance to win, and going forward, he’ll be the quarterback.”

Mills’ next start — the seventh of his career — comes Sunday as the Texans (2-10) host the Seattle Seahawks (4-8). He is 0-6 as Houston’s starter this season.

Mills relieved an injured Tyrod Taylor during the Texans’ 31-0 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. Neither quarterback was all that effective, as Mills completed 6 of 14 passes for 49 yards while Taylor was 5 of 13 for 45 yards with an interception.

Mills, 23, has completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 1,406 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games this season. He was selected by the Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Stanford.

Taylor, 32, is dealing with a torn ligament in his left wrist. He has completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 966 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions in six games.
