We’re rapidly approaching the start of NFL training camps opening, and there are still impact free agents like Dalvin Cook available. We know games aren’t won or lost during the offseason, but teams looking to improve their Super Bowl odds are still making additions to the roster.
That’s no different than a potential contender like the Miami Dolphins, who have already made a big splash this offseason with the addition of Jalen Ramsey. Now, expectations for Miami are sky-high, with last year’s nine-win total being viewed as the floor.
With goals of getting further than the Wild Card round, the Dolphins know they’ll need all the help they can get, facing off against the fierce competition of the AFC East and the rest of the conference.
One player who likely could help Miami come closer to reaching their goals is the four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook, a Florida native. Still unsigned in free agency after being let go following four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, Cook hasn’t found an offer to his liking.
Speculation has pointed to the Dolphins getting involved, and according to several sources, they have. Yet, despite making a contract offer to the 27-year-old tailback, Cook is “not willing to accept,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington.
The expectation is that Cook will continue to wait to make his final decision until closer to training camp, with a date of July 17 being a day to watch. This is the deadline when top franchise-tagged backs like Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley must have a long-term contract agreement in place or play on the tag.
