One Dallas Cowboys beat writer believes the team could make a surprising move by taking a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft and has a specific star from college football in mind.

For the third straight season, the Cowboys won 12 games and took home an NFC East division title for the second time in that time. However, also for the second time in as many years Dallas shockingly saw their season come to a close in the Wild Card Round — this time to the Green Bay Packers.

Obviously, some tweaks to the roster will be necessary in 2024 and since the organization does not have a bunch of cap space to use in free agency they are expected to address certain needs in April’s draft. One area it seems like they won’t be worrying about is quarterback, and over the last few weeks, a new contract extension for Dak Prescott has been one of the biggest stories surrounding the team.

Could the Dallas Cowboys draft Jordan Travis in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Well, not so fast. On Monday, Dallas Morning News Dallas Cowboys reporter Kevin Sherrington took a look at this year’s event and the needs Dallas will target with their five NFL Draft picks and he had a surprising suggestion about the QB spot.

“Besides linebacker, the Cowboys could use a cornerback and more offensive linemen.” Sherrington wrote. “Maybe a quarterback, like, say, Jordan Travis of Florida State.”

The suggestion is confusing since beyond Prescott the organization re-signed Cooper Rush last season as well as traded for Trey Lance. Both are still on the payroll for 2024 at very affordable rates. It would be strange for the Dallas Cowboys to use a draft pick on another quarterback. Especially one coming off a season-ending broken leg.

Nevertheless, owner Jerry Jones is known for unorthodox decisions and after a season where many teams had starting QB injuries Lance and Rush would be intriguing trade options for those in need of a solid backup. Before his injury, Travis was having a big season at Florida State and helped get the team in contention for the College Football Playoffs.
